The Institute of Physics (IOP) are committed to transforming the physics landscape for the UK and Ireland – to ensure a thriving physics ecosystem that will contribute to innovation, discovery, research, growth and debate in the UK, Ireland and beyond. As part of this, the IOP have an explicit aim to increase the number of those on physics-based science apprenticeships. To support this goal, the IOP were keen to explore the views of employers, providers, learners and key sector stakeholders.

Higher Technical Qualifications literature review and interviews
The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) commissioned Shift to explore the landscape of higher technical and applied qualifications in Chemistry and related subjects in England and Scotland, with a view to shaping the direction of future policy work in this area of education. This research aimed to gather evidence about the needs and challenges faced by the sector and to provide the RSC with useful insight to advocate for the development of technical skills for the chemical sciences.

Faraday Primary
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) were looking to expand its Faraday programme into primary, by making free engineering-related teaching resources readily available for primary teachers. Research needed to be undertaken to understand what level of demand there is for resources to help teach this content, what the Faraday programme should consist of at a primary level, and how it should be marketed.
