The brief
The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) wanted support with scoping and delivering a comprehensive survey to their members.
Previously, a survey was administered 6 years earlier, and the RCSLT has since conducted several briefer surveys.
The purpose of this survey was for the organisation to gather an understanding of:
- Membership satisfaction.
- Issues facing members for the RCSLT to focus on.
- Improvement areas within the membership offer.
- Policy influencing priority areas.
The approach
- Cognitive interviews: We conducted 8 member interviews to cognitively test understanding of questions in the survey guide.
- Comprehensive survey: We designed and implemented a 36-question survey, monitoring response rate and ensuring a robust sample that matched membership split, as well as ensuring accessibility.
- Coding: We categorised open responses into specific topics, including areas such as communications, resources and networking. We used data analysis software to thematically code each open survey question.
- Report: An extensive PowerPoint report was created to help illustrate key points in a visual manner.
- Data deliverables: The RCSLT were also provided with aggregated data analysis tables in Excel, anonymised raw data as well as access to Q Reader – a flexible and accessible tool to allow the RCSLT to further interrogate the data.
The value
- Produced a comprehensive report and presentation outlining the survey findings for internal stakeholders.
- Provided actionable recommendations to improve member satisfaction and engagement.
- Trained the RCSLT team on further interrogating the aggregated data with Q Reader.
